TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The information we provide upon an assessment is given as part of our service. It is given in good faith, but as your Sweep can only carry out a brief visual inspection and has not investigated any inaccessible and/or concealed areas, the information must not be relied upon in any way. Chimneys are affected by the way they are used, the weather and many other conditions not known to your Sweep. If you have any safety concerns, please talk to your Sweep who will be delighted to do all he/she can to help. Your Sweep cannot warrant that there are no potential defects in the flue or your chimney arising from fair wear and tear, wilful damage, accident, negligence by you or any third party, use otherwise as recommended by the manufacturer of the appliance, failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions, or any alteration or repair carried out by you or any third party.
While every care is taken to prevent damage to your property, the sweep cannot be held responsible for badly maintained pots, cowls, chimney stacks, poorly maintained tiled/sheeted/thatch roofs or any other part of your chimney/property.
Material information should always be disclosed, i.e. recent chimney fires, fuels used, dates (if known), leaking roofs, tiles that are broken, thatch work that is coming loose etc. This also poses a risk to the chimney sweep. The sweep will not be held responsible for any hidden complications.
Prepare for a chimney sweep’s visit by making sure that the fireplace is easily accessible. Move any furniture and decor out of the way, you may also want to cover it, just in case. You should also make sure that access to the chimney is clear so that the sweep can do their job.
Your sweep can only use his/her knowledge during sweeping to advise on the condition of your chimney or appliance. He/she has not been able to investigate inaccessible/concealed areas. This requires the use of a chimney camera. Any information must not be relied upon in any way. Chimneys are affected by the way they are used, the weather and many other conditions, which may not be known to your sweep. Certificates will only be issued once full payment has been affected.
If you have any concerns please talk to your sweep who will usually be able to offer sound, unbiased advice. The chimney sweep and certificate for chimney sweep is not a guarantee or warranty that any fireplace, heating appliance, boiler, flue or chimney stack is safe to use. We are by no means condoning the use of the fireplace, heating appliance, boiler, flue or chimney stack. No certificate/report will be issued unless payment has been made. Please be aware that older chimney linings may continue to drop material no matter how often they are swept and that tarry chimneys pose a fire risk and may require chemical intervention. Please check with your liner manufacturer that they approve the use of chemicals before using them. Some forms of soot may require a more aggressive type of cleaning, which may not be suitable for your chimney system.
Standard of work: The Original Chimney sweep will take all measures to adequately protect the property from dirt, soot and equipment. Fireplaces will be completely covered. Original Chimney Sweep cannot be held responsible in the event of dirt/soot escaping the protective covering. Original Chimney Sweep takes every care when sweeping chimneys with bird prevention fitted. We cannot be held responsible in the event of a bird prevention or chimney pot/cowl being disturbed when sweeping takes place. If the chimney pot /cowl is disturbed during sweeping it is not considered ‘fit for purpose’ and Original Chimney Sweep cannot be held responsible.
Any problems, leaks(need to be reported after first rain) or smells should be reported in writing to ian@chimneysweeps.co.za at the earliest opportunity and within 1 week of any visit. Reports after this time may not be accepted as genuine and therefore additional charges may be incurred.
If a booking was made in advance, we will contact you within that week to confirm. Should we not be able to confirm with you the day before, we will unfortunately have to book another sweep for that time.
